Windsor Rotary Club is launching a new local project in collaboration
with the Little Free Library project.

The Windsor Rotary Club is building and installing little Free libraries around Windsor and Severance.  The first one has been installed at the corner of Cobble court and Water Valley Parkway.

HERE IS HOW IT WORKS:
Visit at any time!
Just like a regular library, you can borrow books and return
them when you are done, so they can be enjoyed by others.

The Rotary Club of Windsor is focused on the young readers
although readers of all ages are welcome.

We encourage parents to bring children to the Little Free
Library with a book/books to share. If you don’t have one right
now, we understand. Please help us keep the library stocked.

Little Free Libraries are a global phenomenon. The small, front-yard book exchanges number more than 100,000 around the world in over 100 countries — from Italy to Brazil to Japan. Now, a new multiple Little Free Libraries around Windsor and Severance will join the movement to share books, bring people together and create communities of readers. You can find more locations on their webpage.

One of the causes that Rotary International supports is local education.

“Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy. We support education for all children and literacy for children and adults.”

There is lots of research that demonstrates the positive health aspects of reading.  Reading at home boosts school performance later on. It also increases vocabulary, raises self-esteem, builds good communication skills, and strengthens the prediction engine that is the human brain. Researchers have found that students who read books regularly, beginning at a young age, gradually develop large vocabularies. Vocabulary size can influence many areas of your life, from scores on standardized tests to college admissions and job opportunities. We hope that these Little Free Libraries will bring a little more joy, a little more connection, and a whole lot more book to our community.

How you can get involved.

  • Simply visit a lending library around town and find a book to read
  • If you have books that you are done reading, simply put your books in the library for someone else to enjoy.
  • If you are interested in building or painting a library email the Windsor Rotary Club at our website.

Get out and find a book to read!
