The Rotary Club of Windsor had the annual year in review/awards and passing of the gavel this past week. Our mighty little club has many accomplishments every year and continues to take on more. There are so many people that help make this club great, from Karen Trusler’s tireless efforts with RYLA, Interact and being the District Trainer to Ron Clark hosting events at his house, including our first ever Interact/RYLA social, and volunteering his wife to make Chili for the cook-off to Ann Kling arranging Chaperone’s for the dances and stepping in and handling the Grants for the Club to the committee that just pulled off the most profitable golf tournament in our 7 years of the event, and so many others.

Superheroes don’t just exist in comic books or movies. Our very own club had a superhero this year.  He doesn’t leap tall buildings, nor does he scale them with spider webs or respond to bat signals. Certainly, our Rotary Superhero for was for sure Scott Bailey,  he came to rescue with stepping up to be our club President for the year. He lives the Rotary model with the power to do good in the world and to make a difference in the lives of others.

The following is the wonderful write up from Scott as he announced the three service awards for the year.
Quiet Rotarian
The “Quiet Rotarian” award was designed to recognize a Rotarian whose diligent work epitomizes service to others without fanfare or desire for credit.
This person helps out the club in many capacities.  She has always been willing to help whenever she can.  She helped with interviewing Young RYLA candidates, always helps at the Health Fair, Served at the Chili Cook-off, she is also a master fish measurer and she is Secretary of our Club and has been for many years.
I am pleased to announce this year’s winner of the Quiet Rotarian for our Club, Charlotte Ryan.

Service Above Self
The “Service Above Self” award recognizes Rotarians who demonstrate Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self, by volunteering their time and talents to help others.  This award is intended to recognize especially those who actively help others through Rotary.
This years Service Above Self winner has jumped in with both feet.  He has been in club for just over a year, and embodies what is good about Rotary and has been a great example of what a Rotarian should be.  He helped out with The Rockies event, the Harvest Festival, Halloween Outhouse, Health Fair, Golf Tournament and has spent an enormous amount of time on re-designing our Website and is the creator of our Neighborhood Connect Project.
I am pleased to announce that the Rotary Club of Windsor Service Above Self award recipients for 2018/19 is Joe Schroeder.

Rotarian of the Year
This award is designated for the one Rotarian in our club who clearly stands out in demonstrating "Service Above Self," and principled commitment to the Four-Way Test. This person is an outstanding club member who has made significant contributions to the mission and operation of our club, and to one or more avenues of Community or International Service.
The ‘Rotarian of the Year’ for the Rotary Club of Windsor is a memorial award named for Dr. Ardin Wright.  Ardin exemplified everything that a Rotarian should be.  He was a member of our Club for 11 years.
Being a member of a Rotary club does not make someone a Rotarian, it only makes them a member of a club. A Rotarian helps the club achieve its goals and acts with high ethical standards. A Rotarian also participates in the club’s projects, promotes the Club and is an ambassador for the Club.
The award this year could also be considered a lifetime achievement award as the winner has held just about every role in the club over the years including being President two times, Secretary many years and Membership Committee Chair forever.  She has been responsible for coordinating the Health Fair for as longer than any of us have been in the club.  She has been a very active member in our Club for almost 23 years.
It is with great pleasure that I present to you the 2018/2019 Rotary Club of Windsor, Rotarian of the Year Jody Niswender

Congratulations to Scott on a wonderful year. I couldn’t agree more that he has been a superhero this year. His willingness to step in and the excellent service you gave to the club are above and beyond.
On top of all that, he selected a great group of Rotarians to be recognized this year. Congratulations to Charlotte, Joe and Jody, as well as President Mike.
I will miss my visits to your club. You are a great group of Rotarians, wonderful people who make a difference in your community. I will look forward to seeing you when Chris and I visit later in the year.
